Pretty Things

Two weeks ago I received an email informing me that I had won a giveaway for $40 to spend at InPink, an online jewelry store. I managed to score $60 worth of jewelry, between the gift card, free shipping for orders valuing over $49, and a discount code that took $20 off my order. Here's what I ordered:

They arrived last week in this cute little box:

I can't wait to actually wear these. :) But considering how I'm spending this entire weekend moving boxes, probably not the best time to debut my new jewelry...

Giveaway Winner!

Hi lovelies! This is just a quick post to announce the winner of the Sadie Bess Vintage giveaway! Laura R. won the $40 store credit to the Etsy shop. But don't forget, just as a 49 Dresses reader, you can go to the Sadie Bess Vintage blog and get a $5 store credit by mentioning my blog in a comment. You can also earn up to $15 in additional store credit as a part of her month long promotion! So thank you to all who participated in the giveaway, and go check out her site if you'd still like to get a great deal! There's even a sale going on in her store through Sunday, August 25th, so you can really score some good deals. :)

Secondly, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for being such wonderful readers, and for helping me reach 300 followers! You have no idea how much this excites me. You guys are seriously fantastic, and I enjoy reading each and every comment you leave me. Speaking of, I'm slightly behind on responding to those, but I promise I'll get to work on that soon.

Have a great weekend everyone! I'll be back soon with a regular post.

Road Maps

A while back I was cleaning out the closet and came across some old road maps from family trips back in the day, when smart phones and GPS systems didn't do the work for us. I immediately thought about using it in this project, but being the procrastinator that I am, it took a few weeks to put it into action.

Once I actually got around it it, it was a pretty easy project!

I used Elmer's glue and clear coat varnish to cover the lower half of the box with the map. The hinges and handles on the box were screwed on, so I was able to remove them rather than work around them.

Then I mixed some acrylics into a light blue color for the top. Yes, I was lazy and mixed my colors on the box.

 (some tweaking was done....)

And voila! End result.

I'm really happy with how this turned out! The box cost me $2.95 at Goodwill, and the paints were from my existing art supply stock, but probably only cost a few dollars each.

This will go wonderfully with the other things I've redone for my room in the fall.

And just in case you were wondering, it's a map of Indiana.

Lots of Stripes

Sorry for disappearing for the past few days! I've been super busy with life and doing a bunch of DIY projects. I've been enlisted to help decorate two nurseries and also had a couple more personal projects to get out of the way, so I've been churning those out like crazy! I can't wait to share a super cool wooden box makeover I did, but today I'll leave you with a Goodwill haul post that I've been rather delayed about posting...

This was a huge haul, with items from Old Navy, Forever 21, Loft, Gap, Delia's, VS Pink, and Urban Outfitters.

I'm especially excited about the mint colored chinos. I've got some more pant alterations to do. :)

Oh, I almost forgot! Everything in this haul cost me $3.50, because I was at the store around closing time and they were in a rush and just counted everything as one unit price. Usually dresses and coats cost more, so that was a wonderful surprise.

Shorts to Skirt DIY

A while back I turned a skirt into a pair of shorts (see post). This time I did the opposite.

This was a whole lot easier.

I basically ripped out the center seam, turned the shorts inside out, and sewed along the dashed lines as shown below:

I cut off the excess and hemmed as necessary. And that was it!

Cost of project? Just the shorts, which I thrifted here for $3.50. And it has pockets! :)
