A Completely Thrifted Outfit (Day 27)

Dress: thrifted, $4
Shoes: thrifted, $2.50
Scarf: thrifted, $1
Belt: thrifted, $1
Total Spent: $8.50

So...as stated in this post's title, this outfit was completely thrifted! Everything's from Goodwill. Sometimes I think I'm more proud of my thrift store finds than my expensive retail purchases.
Also, I've been trying to use my scarves in different ways lately...I keep seeing other remixers tie their scarves up in such cute ways, and it's got me trying to wear mine in new ways as well. This time I wore this one in a circle scarf style. Last time it was more of a vintage bow:

Tweaked (Days 20+21)

Day 20: I used my lace dress as a shirt by layering a skirt over it. My cat decided to crash my outfit photos. She's a little fat (but not as fat as this photo makes her out to be).

Wind = Silly Photos (18+19)

When I misjudge the weather and wear a flowy skirt on a windy day, I have to deal with Marilyn Monroe moments. Except for her it's iconic, for me it's just awkward.

Yes, go ahead and laugh. That's what it's here for. :) These are a little less struggle filled.

 Top: JCPenney, $7
Skirt: thrifted/altered, $4
Cardigan: TJ Maxx, $12 (gift card)
Shoes: thrifted, $2.50
Belt: thrifted, $1
Total Spent: $26.50

Day 19. I did some creative overlappage of shirts (yes, I'm taking creative liberties with my vocabulary), and turned my purple AE shirt into a fake cropped dolman.

(outfit linked to Jewelscapes Jewlery's post from Wednesday on jewelry...you can go and see how others accessorized for their outfits there!)
 Purple Top: AE (gift card)
Striped Top: H&M, $8
Jeans: Free (gift)
Shoes: Charlotte Russe, $15
Tights: Charlotte Russe, $6.50
Necklace: thrifted, $1
Sunglasses: Target, $3
Total Spent: $33.50

So...I'm beginning to get a little exasperated by 30 for 30. Early in the challenge, a fellow remixers quit the challenge, saying how rather than promoting creative use of one's wardrobe, this challenge seems to be stifling instead. I keep coming up with good outfit ideas only to realize they involve items not in the challenge, so I'm starting to understand what she means. And I'm developing a lengthy mental list of things I want to buy the second I'm allowed to shop again., which is counter-intuitive to that aspect of the challenge as well. However, I will finish. Already two-thirds of the way there!

One more thought on the remix. I think it's actually making my blog posts kind of dull. I've been putting all my blogging time into pumping out remix outfit posts each day, so I haven't had the chance to post about anything else, and I'm sorry about that, because I know I'd like to see more variety if I were looking at a blog! So in March, I'd like to change things up a bit. Start doing more DIYs, thrift store posts, fashion inspiration posts, etc...because I sort of miss those. Remixing is fun, but when every fashion blog you read is doing the same thing, it starts to get a little exasperating. But just a little. I still love looking at other people's remix outfits.

Scraps

I didn't get to snap my outfit photos today, so I',m sharing a DIY instead and posting Day 18 tomorrow. Not too long ago I was helping with a kids' craft project, and there were a few pieces of lace ribbon left over. It was going to get tossed, so I figured I'd try to do something with it. After a few minutes of toying around with it, I figured out that I could scrunch together one edge of a scrap (each scrap being about 4 inches long), and tie it together with a black ribbon, making half of a bow.  Two halves glued together with a hot glue gun produced a super cute lace bow. I wrapped some more of the black ribbon around it, secured it with a few quick stitches when I got home, and stuck a bobby pin through the back to turn it into a clip! Two of them pinned together makes a flower as well.

Yay for zero-cost DIY projects!

Happy weekend everyone!

Cramming 3 Into 1....(Day 13+14+15)

Sorry for disappearing! It's been hectic week!

Here's my Sunday (Day 13) outfit, which only cost me a grand total of $4.50. I got the dress at a church yard sale, the belt is from a friend's closet clean out, and the shoes, well, you see those before. :)

 Dress: Yard sale for $2
Belt: free (given by friend)
Shoes: thrifted, $2.50
Total Spent: $4.50!

And here is Day 14. A friend of mine made these amazing cookie lollipops with a jolly rancher in the middle, and they were so cool I had to share it with you. :)

Belt: free (part of a cut up pencil skirt that cost $0.50)
Shoes: Ross, $18

Last but not least, here's today (Day 15). This time I actually got to wear these shoes, now that my arches aren't dying. And they're great! I walked around all day with them with no issues.

Cardigan: TJ Maxx, gift card
Skirt: Forever 21, $6.50
Shoes: Charlotte Russe: $15
Total Spent: $26.50

A Nice Surprise (Day 12)

I thought I had worn every remix top as of yesterday, but I was wrong! Apparently I'm very adept at losing articles of clothing in my closet.

 Top: Charlotte Russe, $4
Jeans: Ross, $8
Boots: Deb, $10
Scarf: thrifted for $1
Total Spent: $23

A few days ago, I was getting a little worried about making it through the rest of the challenge. I guess I hit a creative low. Rushing in the mornings and staying up late does that to you...but I feel much better about it now! I haven't even worn all 30 items yet (I plan to wear the last unworn item tomorrow), and a third of the challenge is over. I'd consider that a success thus far.

Hope you guys are having a great Saturday!

Snow White and Some Stripes (Day 10+11)

Happy Friday!

Hey everyone! Sorry about not posting yesterday, I was a little too busy.

Here's Day 10. Yesterday I had to dress up as some sort of character (TV, movie, book, etc.) for an event, which is difficult enough without being limited to 30 predetermined articles of clothing. After some thought, I decided to go for Snow White, given I have the right hair and all. I also had the chance to go out for a shoot, so no boring brown walls for this outfit. :)

Top: By Forever 21, thrifted, $3.50
Cardigan: Forever 21, $12
Skirt: thrifted (altered from F21 Dress, I removed the top), $4
Tights: Charlotte Russe, $3.50
Shoes: By Charlotte Russe, thrifted, $2.50
Headband: Forever 21, $1.50
Belt: Forever 21, $3.50
Total Spent: $30.50

And here's Day 11. I posted sometime ago about doing a DIY with this shirt (here), but I never got around to sewing it on. I started to second guess myself because I liked it plain as well. And then I found another way to wear it:

 Top: H&M, $8
Jeans: Ross, $10
Shoes: thrifted, $2.50
Lace: JoAnn's, $2
Total Spent: $22.50

Cookies. Enough Said.

I baked chocolate chip oatmeal cookies last night, and they were AMAZING. I usually don't use recipes on packages, but a friend baked these a while back and I was shocked when she told me it was just the recipe off of the Quaker Oats lid. I thought I should share this find, because well, who doesn't love good food? The recipe's below, and it's also here at the Quaker Oats site.

Vanishing Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/2  cup (1 stick) plus 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3/4  cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2  cup granulated sugar
  • 2  eggs
  • 1  teaspoon vanilla
  • 1-1/2  cups all-purpose flour
  • 1  teaspoon baking soda
  • 1  teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2  teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 3  cups Quaker® Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
  • 1  cup raisins

Preparation

Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, beat butter and sugars on medium speed of electric mixer until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Add combined flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; mix well. Add oats and raisins; mix well.
Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to wire rack. Cool completely. Store tightly covered. Makes 4 dozen cookies.
  • Prep Time: 20 min
  • Cook Time Time: 08 min

Nine.

Top: Hollister, free (gift card)
Sweater: Thrifted from Goodwill, $3.50
Jeans: Free (gift)
Scarf: Ross, $8
Shoes: Charlotte Russe, $15
Total Spent: $26.50

My foot felt a little odd this morning, so I actually wore the black flats instead of these wedges today. But these are the boots that I included from my Charlotte Russe purchase right before the remix challenge.

In other news, I've decided to make a page of DIY project links, because I keep finding amazing tutorials on other blogs that I'd like to keep them in mind for future projects. This way, you guys can check them out as well! You can view the list by going to the "The To-Do List" at the top of the page or just click here.
